There is GOD inside me.

The word of God tells us that we are the Temple of the Spirit of God. Remember when we were created and The Lord Himself breathed life into the shell of our bodies? Well since that time all …

Justice Walter Onnoghen New Acting CJN.

The President recently appointed the new Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria. We congratulate Justice Walter Onnoghen.

This is a welcomed development. After a close examination of his pedigree, I am sure that very soon his appointment will be converted from acting to substantive CJN.

I believe that he will continue the process of purging the Judiciary of all forms of Corruption in Nigeria, in line with the vision of our President, and bring back the phrase “incurriptible judge”.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s comment about the role of the first Lady in his administration during a joint press briefing with German Chancellor Angela Merkel who is also a women is sexism. The president should have answered the question in a better form. The president ought to have simply answered in this way, “The issue is basically a family matter and I will address it when I get back to Nigeria. May be I need to take more time to explain our effort to my wife, if I do that she understand it better because she stood by me when we started this journey.
I am a Lawyer who work towards advancing the rights of women and children. I hereby call on Nigerian women and girls to stop limiting themselves instead they should go out of the shadow and expand horizons. We all defer from the President that the First Lady like other Nigerian women should no longer go back to the kitchen. Women can contribute their quota to the development of Nigeria.
I am not unmindful of the fact that Garba Shehu, the official spokesperson to President Muhamadu Buhari, has hastened to explain the controversial statement of the president by describing it as an expression of the President sense of humour. Those who understand Sexism or gender discrimination will agree with me that it is any form of prejudice or discrimination based on a person’s sex or gender. It is not enough to give sensitive position to women as suggested by Garba Shehu but women should be allowed to perform their respective duties without any form of discrimination.
Sexism is not limited to female gender it also affect the male gender too. It has been linked to stereotypes and gender roles just like the Kitchen role mentioned by the President, and may include the belief that one sex or gender is intrinsically superior to another. Extreme sexism may foster sexual harassment, rape, and other forms of sexual violence.
This type of ‘homour’ to use the word of Garba Shehu especially when it came from the President to the First Lady is highly worrisome. We just got a good news about the Chibok Girls, their abduction is triggered by Sexism. I believe that the President will not take this issue beyond just a display of his sense of homour and treat our first lady without any discrimination as entrenched under Section 42 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as Amended).
I will advise the President to treat the issue as a Family matter to avoid further national debate on this issue and do the needful.
